Day 89: Food Day

The last Spanish lesson was to be dedicated to the recipes of various nations studying Spanish in Jaén. So on Tuesday I stayed up until 1am, baking lokshas (the recipe I linked here a few days ago), and on Wednesday at lunch I proudly wrapped it all into aluminium foil, packed some paté and some grated cheese and off I went. However, I was in for a surprise. Alicia had informed us that about 15 people were coming to eat and share food, so I was carrying my 13 lokshas with confidence, hoping everyone can have a taste. But when I came in, so did another 35 people! Some people brought friends, some from the Thursday class decided to come on Wednesday instead, some who said they couldn’t come were able to make it in the end... And what is more, half of the people did not bring food. To cut the long story short, my 13 lokshas disappeared in about the same number of minutes and I did not even get a chance to explain how they are eaten, so I ended up taking the unopened paté back home.

But despite all this, it was a lovely lesson. I tried some awesome Polish, Tunisian, German, Korean, and Belgian food and sweets and thanks to Alicia also learnt a lot about Spanish Christmas. For example, did you know that in Spain it is not Santa who brings the gifts, but the three Magi, and they always come on camels, so all Spanish children leave a bowl of water for the thirsty camels under the window on the 6th of January? Cool, no?

Deň 89: Deň jedla

Posledná hodina španielčiny bola venovaná receptom typickým pre rôzne krajiny, z ktorých sú študenti španielčiny v Jaén. Takže v utorok som bola hore do jednej a piekla lokše (pred pár dňami som sem dala aj recept) a v stredu naobed som ich hrdo zabalila do alobalu, priložila kelímok paštiky a strúhaný syr a vydala sa na cestu. Avšak na mieste ma čakalo prekvapenie. Alicia nás pripravila na to, že jedlo donesie a jesť príde asi 15 ľudí, takže svojich 13 lokší som niesla s istotou, že každému sa niečo ujde. Ale keď som vošla do triedy, našla som tam zhruba 35 ľudí! Niektorí spolužiaci si doviedli kamarátov, niektorí, čo chodili na hodiny vo štvrtky sa rozhodli prísť radšej v stredu, niektorí, ktorí nahlásili, že neprídu, nakoniec predsa len prišli... A navyše, polovica ľudí nedoniesla žiadne jedlo. V skratke, mojich 13 lokší zmizlo približne za 13 minút a ani som nestihla vysvetliť, ako sa jedia, takže som nakoniec kelímok paté odniesla neotvorený späť domov.

Ale napriek všetkému to bola príjemná hodina. Ochutnala som skvelé poľské, tuniské, nemecké, kórejské a belgické jedlo a sladkosti a vďaka Alicii sa aj dozvedela niečo o španielských Vianociach. Napríklad, vedeli ste, že v Španielsku nenosí darčeky Ježiško, ale traja králi, a vždy prichádzajú na ťavách, takže všetky španielske deti nechávajú 6. januára pod oknom misku vody pre smädné ťavy? Dobré, nie?
